Using and Printing Envelopes

Here are some envelope descriptions known mostly to those copy professionals who work at copy and print centers and shops.
These envelope printing tips will help you get better results and have less problems;

1) What Type of Envelope; wallet or pocket?
All envelopes are split into either wallets or pockets. Wallets open on the long edge and pockets on the short edge.

2) Envelope Types and Sizes?
The most common standard sizes for envelopes are below:envelope printing

Business & Correspondence
Widely used for business and personal correspondence. Commercial and Side Seam flap styles are ideal for machine insertion. Wallet flaps provide a large area ideal for imprinting. Square flaps are contemporary, but not recommended for machine insertion.

Booklet
This style is ideal for annual reports, brochures, sales materials, and more. The open side makes it acceptable for automatic insertion.

Catalog
Center seam makes this style more durable for mailing heavy-weight materials. These envelopes can not be processed through inserting equipment or run through a laser printer.

Square
This unusual shape attracts attention to contents. Square envelopes are nonstandard and require additional postage to mail.

Baronial
Deep pointed flap traditionally used for formal announcements and invitations. Not recommended for machine insertion.

Announcement
Also called A-style, this contemporary design is idea for photographs, greeting cards, small booklets, and promotional pieces. Do not confuse the A-4 size with metric A4 paper, which fits into a DL size Commercial envelope.

3) Envelopes With Windows?
Most envelopes are available with or without a window. Think how you plan to use the envelopes – will you always have an address to show through? If you need both (window and windowless) – printing these at the same time may save on costs.

4) What Kind of Paper?
All too often people do not consider the material that their envelopes are made from. If you’re promoting a premium product or brand, then lightweight envelopes will create the wrong impression. Remember that the envelope is the first thing the recipient will see and feel. By the same token, if you’re printing envelopes as part of a large mailing project then keeping the weight down may be vital – it could save a small fortune in postage costs.

5) Postage Regulations?
Postage regulations may effect size, weight and cost. Please contact your local printer who should be familiar with post office regulations or have your printer speak with your postal carrier company.

The Benefits of Using a Local Print Shop

As a local graphic designer that primarily focuses on print projects, I usually provide printing service quotes to my clients. Recently, I have noticed one question that has been coming up when it comes to printing and pricing quotes – “Why not use an online printer or outsource the printing”? While these types of printers may be adequate at times with limited scope printing projects, I do not recommend online printers or outsourcing printing to my graphic design clients.

Below is an overview of why you may prefer to use a local print shop.

Personalized and Custom Printing Service

When you print online or outsource overseas, it is difficult to speak to a representative about what the best option for your project would be. It is also hard (and costly) to get paper samples, print proofs, and have a full understanding of what will be delivered ahead of time. For some projects, this may not be all that essential, but for a large scale or custom print job, this is a vital step in ensuring your money is well spent.

Print Changes and Printing Consulting Help

Local print companies generally have much more flexibility with artwork and digital files. The truth is online print companies generally have automated processes that batch tons of print jobs together and run on large presses and nowhere down the line is there a set of actual eyes put on a customers particular job. This is by all accounts terrible, since there is no color control, color matching or really any care behind the product. Local print shops really believe in what they do and usually have the right equipment to support the needs of their local market. Usually in local markets there are expert printing shops filling different print niches. Online might save print consumers a little money today but in the long run establishing a solid relationship with a local print business will save lots of money and enhance brand continuity because they pay attention to what each piece is supposed to look like and know that it should match the previous printing.

Security, Quality and Trust

Most local print shops accept payments in increments or after the project has been delivered. This establishes a higher level of trust. The printer does not get paid until the project is right. If you receive the project, and it isn’t what you wanted, you don’t have to accept it and can request a rerun of the project at no cost (given that the printer was in error). If you never receive the final product, the printer does not get paid in full.

Stationary – Letterhead Printing Tips

When purchasing stationary or letterhead for your company or for yourself knowing all your options upfront helps you make better decisions and stay within a printing and design budget.

Stationary and Letterhead for most companies consists of the basics; logo, company name, contact information, all printed on a nice paper stock. To get your customers’ attention you have to break the mold and think outside the box when designing your logo. The logo is an extremely important because it’s how your customers identify you and your company. Your logo should be a well thought out representation of your business and it should convey the quality and what type of service that is associated with your company.

Stationary and Letterhead Printing Tips
If you have never designed or created your own letterhead before, a local print shop will have a ton of great ideas for paper stocks, layouts, inks, and maybe some design tips. The quality and options have greatly changed and expanded for the better over the last few years so ask about what’s new. A few minutes spent with your local printer at the beginning could possibly bring the quality stationary you or your company is looking for.

How to Make Business Postcards

postcard-printingPostcards provide a direct target market opportunity to attract potential customers to your business via low cost postage and printing. Post cards may be used to introduce your business to customers, to announce a special sale or to provide a special discount to people bringing the postcard your place of business as a coupon. Postcards may also be distributed at ones place of business or distributed at special events to potential customers. Postcards may include a combination of text, graphic designs, or photos.

Below are some steps to help you achieve a successful post card campaign;

What is the purpose of postcard: Decide why you are making the post card. What do you hope to accomplish with the post card?

Decide on photos or graphics: Will you be including photos or graphics on your post card? If so, locate them, and edit them as desired. Optimize the brightness and contrast. If needed, seek expert printer advice from a local print shop.

Select a template or style for your post card; Your local print shop should offer a selection of templates which you can edit easily, allow you to upload a completed design, or allow you to design a post card from scratch. Some vendors also offer professional design services (for a fee).

Always proofread; Proofread your postcard and have several other people read your postcard and note their reaction. Ask them what the postcard means to them, what message pops into their minds first.

Target market; Determine what your target market is. Target marketing helps reduce advertising cost and give you a better rate of return on your postcard campaign.
